Wholey Granola !!

January 20, 2017

Granola is a popular breakfast food that is filled with our necessary macro nutrients. Our friends, carbohydrates, fats and proteins!

On paper it sounds healthy but in reality it is super tricky to find the right ones. I have attempted to make my own, to be honest I'm a lousy cook. I've bought just about every style invented, filled with the wrong ingredients and preservatives. UMM no thank you!

Let me explain my frustrations and I'll tell you my new found solution:

Frequently in store brand granola, it is filled with refined carbohydrates that spike our insulin levels which signals our bodies to store fat. This all happens with your basic cereals, cookies, white bread, waffles, all that type of jazz. We need complex carbs not refined! We THRIVE on whole grains and complex carbohydrates. This is our bodies preferred source of energy.

Up next, cholesterol. When consuming carbs from oats, beans and whole grains it helps lower our "bad" LDL cholesterol and higher our "good" HDL cholesterol.

Sugar time, the amount of sugar that is added to most brands is unreal. If I were to waste my sugar intake on a breakfast item I'd much rather grab a cupcake or another bad gal option. Our body breaks it down in such a similar way that your gut will have no clue you attempted to make a healthy choice.

As we know, if its canned, bagged and can be left on a shelf for who knows how long, it is loaded with preservatives. A preservative is a substance that is added to food to prevent the natural decomposition. That means your body wont be able to break it down and it stores that substance as fat. Especially if you are prone to cellulite.

Until last month, I have refused to buy granola for quite a long time. Thankfully I found Wholey Granola! Packed with amazing, healthy & delicious ingredients I can finally enjoy granola again! Completely free of preservatives, refined carbohydrates and refined sugars.  The best part of Wholey Granola for me is that it is gluten free. For all you other gluten free-ers, you know my pain about GF products, they tend to taste like cardboard and have the oddest consistency. Wholey granola uses gluten free oats and all naturally gluten free ingredients. Filled with the perfect blend of seeds, nuts and oats, it fills you up while providing you with your esenstail fats protiens and carbohydrates. OUR MACRO FRIENDS! My favorite way to have granola is filling it up in a mug with cold almond milk. So refreshing and crunchy!

This product is made by one of my favorite Hamptons natives, Debra McKay, who an avid health enthusiast and fit chick! Sharing the same frustrations toward mainstream granola as I do, she created and conquered a tasty solution, Wholey Granola.

Now we can replace our old cereals, trail mix and granolas with his bag of goodness. A healthy body is an efficient body. If we feed it whole, organic and nutritious foods, we reduce our risks of any type of illness and discomfort. Lets be healthy & happy Hamptonites!
